Today, we’re excited to feature the incredibly talented Mariel Bildsten. 🌟 Downbeat Magazine calls New York City-based jazz trombonist Mariel Bildsten “irrepressibly spontaneous.” Mariel has earned global distinction through her performances with Jon Batiste, Roy Hargrove, Jennifer Hudson, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and the Mingus Big Band at iconic venues like Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Apollo Theater. Her lyrical and swinging style has thrilled audiences around the world. 🎶 Mariel’s band has performed for sold-out crowds at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Times Square, The Bickford Theatre, and the Caramoor Jazz Festival. She is featured in a monthly residency at the Django Jazz Club in New York City and released an album “Steppin’ Out!” in August 2023. This year, you can catch Mariel and her band at the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Perth International Jazz Festival, and, of course, Tilles Center Jazz Festival! 🎺 Mariel’s arrangements and originals celebrate the prestigious music of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Duke Pearson, and more. Today, we’re thrilled to feature the innovative and trailblazing harpist Brandee Younger! Brandee is revolutionizing the harp for the digital era, breaking boundaries over the past fifteen years. In 2022, she made history as the first Black woman to be nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition and received an NAACP Image Award nomination. Her latest album, Brand New Life, is a testament to her artistic evolution, saluting her musical foremother Dorothy Ashby while speaking to modern sentiments. Born in Hempstead, New York, Brandee’s journey from classical training at the Hartt School of Music to jazz explorations encouraged by saxophonist Jackie McLean is nothing short of inspiring. Brandee has played alongside jazz legends like Pharaoh Sanders and Ravi Coltrane and has worked with cultural icons such as Common and Lauryn Hill. Today, we highlight the legendary Branford Marsalis Quartet! 🌟⁠ ⁠ New Orleans-born Branford Marsalis is a multi-award-winning saxophonist, band leader, and composer. With three Grammys and a citation as a Jazz Master, Branford's Quartet, formed in 1986, is renowned for its stylistic range and uncompromising interpretations of jazz and popular classics.⁠ ⁠ Branford’s career spans classical music, with frequent solo performances alongside acclaimed orchestras, and iconic pop collaborations with Sting and the Grateful Dead. His Broadway work earned a Drama Desk Award and Tony nominations, and his film scores include Spike Lee's Mo' Better Blues and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
